Last August, Jonathan and I decided to apply for a once in a life time experience to be in the 2009 Hill Chomorah Pageant. The pageant depicts several stories from The Book of Mormon with a cast of 739 people in addition to the staff of a few hundred. It was amazing to meet other cast members from all over the world! We made friends with people from Hawaii, Saudi Arabia and Italy as well as many from the States. We had an amazing experience. Because the pageant is 16 days long, we had to save up Jonathan's vacation for the whole year, and it was totally worth it! There is way too much to write about all here, but I will do my best. My apologies for such a long post!
The first day, we received our parts. Jonathan was cast as a New World Disciple, or as we liked to call him...
Pocahontas.
I was cast as a wicked Noah citizen. Type casting I'm sure!
My sweet mom worked in the resource room so we got to see her all the time! She did an amazing job making sure we had good food to eat and even a place to rest during our "down" time.
My part was to worship the wicked King Noah,
and to watch Abinadi burn to death; which was much harder to do than I thought it would be.
Jonathan's part was in my favorite scene in pageant; when the Savior appears to the people in the new world.
See the pigtails? ( He is second to the right from the Savior.)
While we had a ton of fun, it was also a great testimony builder. Before the performances, we would go out into the audience and visit with our guests. We met people from all over and as far as Australia! It was wonderful to visit with different people and answer questions about the pageant. Since I love to be the center or attention, all the people wanting out picture and autographs was flattering too!
We were able to take a little time off to go and see the historical sites around including the Sacred Grove.
Being in Pageant was a lot of work, but worth every minutes. With 14 hour days and little time to rest, I was grateful for my mom and all the work she did to take care of us when we were there! My testimony grew leaps and bounds and I was able to spend tons of quality time with my hubby. I loved it and hope to do it again someday!
